Bedford Entertainment was founded in 1980 by film industry veteran Steve Mackler. Mr. Mackler entered the entertainment industry as a motion picture sales manager for Warner Brothers in New York and later became the Northeast regional film buyer for the General Cinema Corporation, buying feature films from major studios for more that 80 screens. Mr. Mackler was also involved in the production of three films for SONY in 1987 and in 1990 he produced Hugh Leonard’s Widow’s Peak, which was shot in Ireland starring Mia Farrow and Natasha Richardson and distributed in the U.S. by New Line.
In 1991 Mr. Mackler co-funded Triboro Entertainment, which acquired and produced programming for the U.S. video market under its own label. Among the motion pictures Mackler acquired were Fellini’s Intervista and Ang Lee’s first film Pushing Hands, as well as a host of select genre pictures. In the four year Mackler ran Triboro, he helped acquired and oversee distribution of more that 60 films.
Bedford Entertainment emerge with the original focus to distribute independent feature films into the theatrical marketplace, but soon thereafter, with the burgeoning of home video and cable television, Bedford expanded its distribution capabilities into the home entertainment industry. To date, the company has over 294 films in its library and currently distributes an average of 16 pictures per year in association with its longstanding partner MTI Home Video. Bedford Entertainment prides itself on providing quality product of diverse genre for the home entertainment industry, and looks forward to its continued success as a leading independent supplier in the never-ending demand for the home entertainment connoisseur.
